Geotechnical investigations of coastal structures in Rab ports

by Lili in News

As part of preparations for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of coastal structures on the island of Rab, the Rab County Port Authority is conducting geotechnical investigations in the ports of Rab, Supetarska Draga – Dumići and Kamporska Draga.

As the optimal method of preliminary investigation of geological conditions, geophysical profiling using the seismic refraction method was chosen, which can relatively accurately determine the boundaries of key geotechnical layers, such as coastal embankments, marine sediments and bedrock.

The method will be applied both on land and under the sea, enabling detailed profiling of the areas of planned port rehabilitation, reconstruction and expansion works. The data obtained will serve as the basis for the development of preliminary and main designs, the development of which is planned for 2025.

Geophysical profiling is predominantly carried out under the sea, while on low coasts, where technically feasible, profiles are made that partially cover the land. It is planned to carry out seismic profiles up to 110 meters long.

During April, works were carried out in the port of Rab, and in the second half of May, they also began on parts of the ports of Supetarska Draga – Dumići and Kamporska Draga.

The works are being carried out by the company Terra Compacta doo from Zagreb, and the total value of the contracted works is 30 thousand euros.
